Don’t Let Your Confidence Be Deflated By a Difficult Project
Sometimes you just need a break, and when you return to your project with fresh eyes, you can give it the effort to get it across the finish line.
Why I Sew in Black and White
A friend has been commenting on my garments and toiles lately on social media. She finds it odd that I sew only in white for summer and it just doesn’t make any sense to her. To her, there are so many beautiful prints, so many choices to have. Why white? Well for me, black in Fall/Winter, and white in Spring/Summer are simply the right choices. See, as a Gemini I suffer easily from mental fatigue, and as beautiful as patterned fabric is, it quickly tires my eyes. Recently, by the time the fabric even arrives in the mail, I am...
Scrap Busters-How to Make Pattern Weights
I am so concerned about the environment that at times it becomes compulsive. I save every little thing, knowing that one day, there will be a use for them. Today, my squirrel tendencies came to use as I made my first pattern weights! To start, you will want to go to Home Depot and purchase some washers. The sizing really confused me, but later made sense when I referred to a rather dull YouTube video. 3/4′ is the diameter of the hole inside the washer and the actual washer itself measured 2 inches. This was a gratifying project I knew...
Pattern Review: Romy Top
For my birthday, I decided to sew the Romy top by Tessuti Fabrics. I had seen photos of this lovely top on Instagram and it looked in alignment with my ever-changing style. I found it to be a quick sew, and fairly easy to construct. I have read a lot of mixed reviews on the construction of the top, especially around the armscye. I have broader shoulders, so I personally didn’t run into any fit issues. The strap is extremely long and I only needed 4.5 inches to end the top where I needed it. After trimming the original...
Cultivating A Wardrobe You Love
What is the importance of sewing? For me, it is the ability to freely express oneself without limitations. If I do not see something in the store I like, or I see something and want to improve upon it, all I need is a seam ripper, 4-8 hours, and patience. This year has been a huge shift. Easing into a new decade of life has been exciting, as I settle more into my true self. Gone are the days where I have yards and yards of endless fabric choices, all made on impulse and not one color or style I...
